Anime in Old L.A.

The latest anime expo shortly hits the Convention Center.

... Since its inception at the San Jose Red Lion Hotel in 1992, the Anime Expo has grown bigger each year. The celebration of Japanese anime and manga now claims the Los Angeles Convention Center as its home, and this year will expand into L.A. Live’s Nokia Theatre, Club Nokia and Nokia Plaza ...

The world premiere of the Japanese movie “Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail” will screen Thursday at 1:30 pm, presented by the creator and artist of the manga series that had inspired the movie, Rei Hiroe.

There are, after all, commercially successful animated features beyond the usual suspects of Pixar, DreamWorks, Blue Sky, etc.

It's always useful to dwell on that a bit, in between our ongoing obsessions about Emeryville's next move.
